Praise Lubangu - Live In London

Elevating an independent Christian artist's live set into a highly professional, album-ready concert experience. To eliminate the awkward transitions common in independent gigs, I completely reimagined the setlist with bespoke arrangements, including a walk-on intro, seamless remix medleys and a play off. Because the entire night was multi-track recorded for a future live album release, I led rehearsals to ensure the band was completely locked in, delivering a tight, polished performance that connected with the audience in the room and also those listening at home.

The Brief

elevate an independent Christian artist's headline show into a premium, highly professional concert experience.

Musical Direction

As the Musical Director, I was responsible for getting the band completely show-ready and running rehearsals to perform a flawless set. We wanted to move away from the predictable, sometimes awkward flow of a typical indie gig, so I focused heavily on professionalism incorporating walk-ons, intentional walk-offs, and dynamic pacing. Because we were multi-track recording the entire night for a future live album release, so the band had to be tight so we could get a great sounding album at the end of the night.

As custom arrangements were being used, I created reference material that would be used for band members to practice to at home, this was vital as we only had one rehearsal prior to the show and the soundcheck on the day to get things nailed. Also provided was the backing tracks used on the night so there was no surprised on the night.

custom Arrangements

To make the music translate perfectly to the stage, I completely reimagined the setlist with custom arrangements. We kicked off the show with a custom ambient intro track that built anticipation and served as a walk-on moment for Praise, which dropped seamlessly straight into the first song. To keep the performance fresh and engaging for the crowd, I also used remixes of a couple of songs, blending them with the originals as to create new interesting versions of already released songs. While it was not released, I created a medley of her two most popular features with ‘sxxnt’ which went down great in the room but ultimately didn’t work for a release due to the licensing needed

To end the show, we featured a brand-new track that I co-wrote with Praise. We arranged this final song to serve a double purpose, utilizing it for the live band introductions and as the play-off music to close the night. This allowed the musicians to shine individually while giving the entire show a polished, big-budget finale.
